Vor lauter Zensursula-Boykott habe ich das Bild des neuestes FOs noch gar nicht gepostet: Dies ist der Seamless Hybrid Sweater von Elizabeth Zimmermann, getrickt in sommerlicher Baumwolle.

This is my latest FO, the Seamless Hybrid Sweater by Elizabeth Zimmermann, knitted in a summerly cotton yarn.

Das Praktische an den Anleitungen von Zimmermann ist (neben der Tatsache, dass man nicht nähen muss), dass man jedes Garn verwenden und die Pullover nach den eigenen Vorstellungen modifizieren kann.

It’s very practical that you can use every yarn you like when working a Zimmermann pattern, and you can modify the garment as you like. And, of course, there is no sewing.

Wenn man die Anzahl der Maschen anhand von Maßen und Maschenprobe richtig berechnet hat, kommt immer ein hervorragend passendes und sitzendes Kleidungsstück heraus.

If you did the maths correctly, you’ll always get a garment that fits perfectly.

Das Besondere an diesem Pullover ist die Kombination aus Raglan- und Sattelschulterprinzip.

The special thing about this sweater is the combination of raglan and saddle shoulder construction.

Für den Rücken habe ich die Shirt-Yoke-Variante gewählt, die eine Passe imitiert, die für genähte Hemden üblich ist (und stricktechnisch recht esoterisch daherkommt, aber sehr einfach ist.)

For the back I chose the shirt yoke version which imitates the yoke of a sewn shirt. This looks like a rather esoteric technique but is really easy to knit.

Ach ja, wenn alles auf eine Nadel kommt, sieht es immer so blusig-rüschig aus, aber das gibt sich. Dies ist jedenfalls mein Seamless Hybrid an der relevanten Stelle, also wo er zum Seamless Hybrid wird.

Oh yes, when you put all parts on one needle, it always looks a bit ruffly-blousy, but this will change. However, this is my seamless hybrid at the vital point where it becomes a seamless hybrid.

Mir ist es nicht egal, was ich verstricke. Ich möchte weder Wolle verstricken, für die Schafe verstümmelt wurden, noch Materialien, die für die Umwelt allzu desaströs sind. Daher habe ich immer bedauert, dass die Garnhersteller sich so bedeckt halten. Doch dies Material ist sowohl von der Färbung als auch vom Anbau her aus ökologisch-nachhaltiger Produktion, und dazu hat man kein Bindfaden-Feeling beim Verstricken, ganz im Gegenteil: Es ist sehr weich und angenehm. So lasse ich mir das doch gefallen.

I do mind what I knit with. I don’t want to use wool for which sheeps are mutilated nor materials which are desastrous for the environment. Therefore I always regretted that the producers don’t declare properly which dyes are used or where their raw materials come from. But this yarn is produced unter ecological and sustainable conditions, and you don’t have the feeling of knitting with packthred at all. It’s really soft. That’s what I want.

Als ich die Hanami-Stola beendet hatte, fiel ich in das altbekannte Loch, das meist folgt, wenn man was Besonderes abgenadelt hat. Ich beschloss, mich meinem RVO zu widmen, bei dem noch die Ärmel fehlten. Da erwischte mich die ganz große Langeweile, denn das Teil wird glatt rechts gestrickt. Den ersten Ärmel quälte ich fast bis zu dessen Vollendung.

After finishing the Hanami stole, I felt the emptiness that follows quite often the finishing of a garment which is somewhat special. So I decided to finish the raglan knitted from the top where only the sleeves had to be done. This bored me to death since it’s plain stockinette. But I harried myself to the end of the first sleeve (well, almost, still some centimetres have to be done).

Zufällig stieß ich auf ein Baumwollgarn, das mich begeistert: Schachenmayr Cotton Eco Color in Grau. Meine Mutter verstrickt es gerade, und ich mag sowohl die Weichheit (kein Topflappen-Feeling beim Stricken) als auch den sanften Verlauf. Als ich auf ein Sonderangebot stieß, musste ich einfach … naja, Ihr wisst schon. Um den nicht durch Musterungen zu stören, entschied ich mich für den Seamless Hybrid von Elizabeth Zimmermann in glatt rechts und schlug ihn an, nur mal so, zum Testen. Eigentlich auch ein stinklangweiliges Teil, bis man alles auf einer Nadel zusammenfasst und zu den Abnahmen kommt. Dennoch stricke ich den mit großer Begeisterung. Der Hauptteil und ein Ärmel sind bereits fertig, mit dem zweiten habe ich begonnen. Man sollte doch meinen, dass “glatt rechts” sich genauso strickt wie “glatt rechts”, aber weit gefehlt. Logik?

I found a summer yarn which really enthuses me: Schachenmayr eco color in gray. My mother currently uses this, and when I found a special offer, I just had to … well, you know. I just love the softness (no potholder feeling at all), and the soft colour gradient. For not messing up the beautiful shading this yarn shows when knitted, I decided to use it for a plain seamless hybrid by Elizabeth Zimmermann in stockinette. I just casted on and knitted a few rows, just for trying. Actually, this is really boring as well, until you reach the decrease section, but I just can’t put it down. The body and one sleeve are done (until the point where everything is put on one needle), and I just started with the second sleeve. I would think that one stockinette knitting is like the other, but I was wrong. What’s about logic???
