Auf Wunsch einer einzelnen Dame hier nochmal der Ausschnitt des cornischen Ganseys.  Auf der historischen Aufnahme ist eine Widerholung der Rippen des Bündchens zu sehen, und so wird er meist auch gestrickt (von den wenigen, die das Muster überhaupt stricken). Mir gefiel das nicht wirklich, da ich finde, dass es zu dem schuppigen Muster nicht so gut passt. Ein Rollkragen war auch keine Alternative, da ich diese sehr ungern trage. Die zündende Idee kam mir, als ich mir den Ausschnitt näher ansah: Sattelschulter sei Dank war seine Form rechteckig geraten, und ich beschloss, das zu nutzen. Also strickte ich ein paar Reihen in kraus rechts mit doppelten Abnahmen an allen vier Ecken. Darauf folgte ein einfacher Rollrand, den ich glatt rechts strickte. Das ist alles, und ich bin sehr zufrieden damit.

A lady showed her interest in the way I knitted the neckline of my Cornish gansey.  There is an ancient photography showing this pattern, and the neckline repeated the ribbed cuff pattern. Modern replica of this historic pattern show this kind of neckline, too. This didn’t please me since I thought the ribbing doesn’t become the scale-like pattern very much. So I looked out for a different solution. When I took a closer look of the neckline I got the idea: its shape was – thanks to the saddle soulders – rectangular, and I decided to use this. I knitted some rows in garter stitch with double decreases at the corners, and after this I knitted a plain rolled brim in stockinette stitch. That’s all, and I like it very much.

Hier ist das Beweisfoto: Der cornische Gansey ist wirklich fertig. Noch etwas feucht, aber fotografierbar. Die Passform ist ausgezeichnet, und ich bin rundum zufrieden.

Here comes the evidence. The Cornish Gansey is done. It’s still a bit damp, but I took a picture anyway. It fits extraordinary well, and I’m totally satisfied with the result.

Da ich mit Nadelstärke 2 gestrickt habe, bin ich in eine neue Dimension des “Brettstrickens” vorgedrungen, allerdings ist der Pullover durch das Waschen weicher geworden. Überhaupt: Das Waschen! Erst nimmt das Teil kein Wasser an, dann wird es nur schwer trocken.

Since I knitted it with 2mm needles, I entered new dimensions of “planky knitting”, the garment became really thight and stiff. But it softened after washing. Washing it was very special, by the way: First the wool didn’t soak, and after it did, it dried really slowly.

Der Gansey wurde traditionell in Runden gestrickt. Ich habe mich für eine Sattelschulter entschieden und für eine etwas außergewöhnliche Ausschnittform, die, wie ich finde, gut passt. Außerdem habe ich das Muster an den Ärmeln fortgesetzt.

I knitted the gansey in the traditional manner, that means in rounds. I decided to knit a saddle shoulder and a rather unusual neckline, but I think it looks well together with the pattern. Besides this, I decided to knit the sleeves in the same pattern as the yoke.

Just a quick entry for your information: The Cornish Gansey is really, really done. I just finished it, weaved in the loose ends, and washed it. When it will be dry, I’ll post a photo.

des zweiten Ärmels schaffe ich auch noch. Ich habe ziemlich viel daran gestrickt während der letzten Woche, da ich das Teil endlich loswerden möchte. 1,5 Mustersätze und das Bündchen fehlen noch zum zweiten Ärmel, dann stricke ich den Ausschnitt nochmal (ungern, aber er ist nicht so schön geworden), und dann ist das erste WIP of Doom wirklich fertig. Insofern hoffe ich, meine LeserInnen ab der nächsten Woche mit einem anderen WIP langweilen zu dürfen.

… of the second sleeve will be done soon, I hope. This was my preferred project during the last week, since I want to get rid of it. Still 1,5 pattern repeats to go, then the cuff will follow, and finally I will knit the neckline for a second time (I don’t like to do this, but it didn’t come out as I expected it to do). Then the very first WIP of Doom will be finished. Therefore I hope to bore my readers with another WIP from the next week on.

Jaja, es gibt spannenderes als Bilder immer desselben Ärmels. Aber warum sollt Ihr nicht ein bisschen unter meinem WIP of Doom leiden, schließlich leide ich ja auch. Abgesehen davon bin ich stolz auf mich, denn ich habe gestern drei Mustersätze geschafft. Wegen der Hitze habe ich erst abends gestrickt. Deswegen werde ich mich heute wieder einer sommerlichen Strickerei zuwenden. Es ist einfach zu heiß für Wolle.

Yes, I know, there are many things which are more thrilling than pictures of the same sleeve again and again. But why should I be the only one suffering of this? Besides that, I’m proud of me because I finished three pattern repeats yesterday. Due to the hot weather I started knitting in the evening. Today I will proceed with a more summerly knitting. It’s just too hot for wool at the moment.  

Jaha, es war wieder Mittwoch, und so war wieder der Gansey dran. Viel ist es nicht, aber immerhin habe ich gestern zwei Mustersätze geschafft (ich war lange unterwegs und hatte zum Stricken nicht so viel Zeit.

Yes, it was Wednesday again, and this means it was the gansey’s turn. I didn’t knit that much yesterday, I had not so much time, but I finished two pattern repeats, and that’s better than nothing.

Der unbestreitbare Vorteil meiner kleinen Mittwochsaktion ist, dass man jede Woche an einem WIP wenigstens etwas macht und so langsam vorankommt, selbst wenn man keine Lust hat, sonst daran zu stricken, so wie ich letzte Woche. Aber es geht voran, und ich bin zuversichtlich, das Teil noch diesen Monat beenden zu können. Da bliebe nur noch die Frage zu beantworten, warum ich ausgerechnet im Hochsommer einen absolut winddichten Pullover stricke …

The advantage of this little campaign is that I’m knitting at least a bit every week on a project that I want to finish. There is a progress, even if I don’t feel like picking the project up during the rest of the week (as it was for me last wellk). However, I’m optimistic to finish thisone this month. So I just have to find an answer to the question why I’m knitting a truely windbreaker during the hottest time of summer …

Und wieder war es Mittwoch. Ich habe am Gansey weitergestrickt, auch wenn man nicht viel sieht, nur einen schmalen Streifen am Ärmel. Das liegt daran, dass ich nicht sonderlich gerne Maschen aufnehme. Da ich jedoch noch weniger gern nähe, habe ich gestern also tapfer an meinem WIP of Doom weitergearbeitet. Immerhin sehe ich schon das Licht am Ende des Tunnels.

And it was Wednesday again. I proceeded with my gansey, even if you don’t see much, just a small part of the sleeve got finished. It’s because I’m not too fond of picking up stitches. But since I just dislike sewing, I pulled myself together and just did it yesterday: I went on with this WIP bravely. And now, after starting with the second sleeve, I can already see the light.

Gestern war ja wieder Mittwoch, und das hieß, dass ich mich dem aktuellen WIP of Doom widme, also dem Gansey. Ich bin ganz stolz, denn ich habe gestern den Rest des ersten Ärmels und den Ausschnitt fertiggestellt. Der Auschnitt war insofern eine Herausforderung, als ich erstmal einen finden musste, der mir zu diesem Pullover überhaupt gefiel. Letztendlich habe ich improvisiert, bin aber zufrieden.

Yesterday was WIP of Doom Wednesday again, and so I dedicadet the knitting of this day to my acutal WIP of Doom, and this is the Denim Gansey. I’m quite proud of myself, because I finished the rest of the first sleeve, and the neckline as well. The neckline was quite a challenge because I had to find one I liked with the rest of the sweater. Finally I decided to improvise a bit, but I like the result. 

Bedingt durch den Computerausfall kann ich meinen Fortschrittsbericht zum aktuellen WIP of Doom erst heute liefern. Mein erstes WIP, dem diese besondere Ehre zuteil wird, ist der Gansey, einfach, weil ich während der EM so schön weit damit gekommen bin und da nicht nachlassen möchte. Ich kann daher stolz vermelden, dass der erste Ärmel fast fertig ist. Es fehlt nicht mehr viel, dann kommt das Bündchen.

Due to the breakdown my computer suffered from I just can give the first report of the WIP of Doom campaign today. The first WIP this special treat is given to is the denim blue gansey. During the European football  championship I made such a great progress with it that it would be4 a shame to give it up now. So I’m proud to tell that the first sleeve is almost done. I just have to knit a little more of the pattern, and then the cuff will follow. 

Ich denke, es war eine gute Idee, das Muster an den Ärmeln fortzusetzen.

I think it was a good idea to knit the sleeves in the pattern, too.

Auch vom EM-Knitalong gibt es etwas Neues zu berichten: Ich bin beim ersten Ärmel des cornischen Ganseys schon recht weit. Glatt rechts wäre schneller, aber so finde ich es schöner.

There are some news from my EM-KAL, too.  I’m in the middle of the first sleeve of my Cornish Gansey. If I had decided to knit it in plain stockinette, I would probably have finished it already, but I like it better this way.
