Wie Iris bei unserem Ausflug nach Flensburg so treffend bemerkte: Das Anstricken ist immer das Schönste (btw: Iris, Du hattest recht und ich nicht, dazu mehr im nächsten Beitrag). Ich habe also den Pullover Stella aus dem Atelier Karen Noe begonnen. Es ist ein raffiniertes Teil, unten besteht er aus quadratischen Modulen und oben aus einer kraus rechts gestrickten Passe. Ich verarbeite dafür Leinengarn von Karen Noe in einem unwiderstehlichen Blauton, das leicht meliert ist.  Leider kommt das auf dem Foto nicht so gut zur Geltung. Die diesmal einfarbigen Module ergeben eine sehr interessante Struktur.

During our trip to Flensburg Iris mentioned that starting a new project ist the best time one can have with it; and she’s definately right (and I’m wrong, but more about this in my next post). Of course I couldn’t resist and had to try one of my new yarns I bought in Flensburg. It’s the sweater Stella from Karen Noe’s studio. It’s a very interesting construction; the body is mostly made of square modules while the yoke will be knitted in garter stitch. The monochrome modules make a very interesting look. I’m knitting with a linen yarn by Karen Noe in an irresistable blue shade which doesn’t show in this picture at all.

Das Verstricken des Leinengarnes ist übrigens nicht so schlimm, wie ich dachte. Das Paketschnur-Feeling ist nur ansatzweise da; natürlich ist es anstrengender als das Stricken mit Wolle.

Knitting with linen is not as bad as I thought (at least not with this yarn). It’s not the hemp cord feeling I feared, but of course it’s more exhausting for the hands than knitting with wool.

Es ist nicht alles Lace und modular hier, auch der RVO ist gewachsen. Hier fehlen nur noch die Ärmel und die Blende am Ausschnitt. Ein wenig langweilig zu arbeiten, aber hübsch. Das Muster ist übrigens der Labyrinth Sweater aus den Stitchdiva Studios, gestrickt in Rowan Summer Tweed in einem für mich absolut unwiderstehlichen meliertem Blau.

It’s not all modular or lacy here, the raglan knitted from the top grew a good amount, too. I just have to knit the sleeves and the neckline finishing. It’s a bit boring to knit, all stockinette, but I like the results. The pattern is the Labyrinth sweater by Stitchdiva Studios, knitted in Rowan Summer Tweed in a tweedy medium blue which is absolutely irresistible to me.

Nun habe ich mir genug Zeit mit Klein- und Mittelprojekten vertrieben; es ist wieder Zeit für etwas Ernsthaftes. Dies wird mal ein RVO, gestrickt aus Rowan Summer Tweed in der Farbe Cape, die mich total begeistert. Ich hoffe, er geht einigermaßen schnell, ganz im Gegensatz zu den Persian Poppies III, die ich ebenfalls begonnen habe.

Now I clowned around enough with small and medium size projects, and it’s time again for something more serious. This will become a raglan, knitted from the top. I chose Rowan Summer Tweed for it, and the colour is cape which I really like. I hope I’ll be done rather soon with it, because the Persian Poppies sweater will take very, very long.

Dieses sehr schlecht zu fotografierende Teil ist das Top Harmony von Hanne Falkenberg. Ich bin inzwischen ziemlich genau bei der Hälfte angelangt. Für den Sommer wird es natürlich nichts mehr, aber im Herbst kann man es sehr schön über langärmeligen T-Shirts tragen, und das ist doch auch schön. ; )

This very hard-to-shoot project is the Harmony Top by Hanne Falkenberg. I knitted half of it now. Of course summer is almost over and I won’t finish it on time for being a real summer knit, but it’ll be nice to wear over long-sleeved shirts in autumn as well.  

Jetzt, wo ich vom Gansey befreit bin, habe ich das Top Harmony von Hanne Falkenberg wieder aufgenommen. Vorder- und Rückenteil werden nun bis zur nächsten Schulter separat voneinander gestrickt, was recht befriedigend ist, da man den Fortschritt schneller sieht, als wenn man über die doppelte Länge stricken muss.

Now, after I freed myself from the Gansey, I took up the Harmony top by Hanne Falkenberg again.  Back and front are knitted separately now until the next shoulder is reached, and this is very satisfying. The progress made is visible more clearly than before when I had to knit over the double length. 

… ist im Moment das Top Harmony  von Hanne Falkenberg. Das Material lässt sich nämlich auch bei großer Hitze angenehm verstricken. Das Bild zeigt den Ärmel plus Vorderteil; das Rückenteil liegt zusammengefaltet darunter. Der Garnverbrauch bis jetzt beträgt luftige 100 Gramm, was meine erbärmliche Garnstatistik erklärt. Leute, die dicke Garne und große Nadelstärken bevorzugen, sind eindeutig im Vorteil, was den Stashabbau betriff.

… is at the moment the Top Harmony by Hanne Falkenberg.  The material is still a tolerable knit during the summer heat. The pic shows the sleeve and the front, the back is lying crumpled under it. I used the ridiculous amount of 100 g of yarn until now. This explains my awkward stash statistics; people who prefer thick yarns and needles have a clear advantage. 

Hier nochmal das Muster im Detail.

Ich konnte auch wegen des warmen Wetters nicht widerstehen und habe das Top Harmony von Hanne Falkenberg angeschlagen. Die Strickpackung habe ich mir am Samstag beim Stricktreff in Kiel gekauft.  Falkenberg hat eine neue Linie herausgebracht: Sommerliche Stricksachen mit einem Garn, das zur Hälfte aus Baumwolle und zur anderen Hälfte aus Wolle besteht. Interessant an diesem Garn ist, dass die beiden Materialien separat versponnen, aber zusammen verzwirnt wurden. Auch der erzielte Farbeffekt ist toll: Der Baumwollfaden ist mit Indigo gefärbt (oder naturfarben bei manchen Farben), und die Wolle in einem dazu passenden Ton, bei mir ist es ein schönes Violett (lässt sich natürlich alles nicht richtig fotografieren). Das Top wird an den Ärmeln angeschlagen und in einem Stück gestrickt, wobei die Passe gemustert ist. Zu sehen ist hier das Ärmelloch mit dem Vorder- und Rückenteil.

I couldn’t resist (due to the warm weather) and started the Harmony top by Hanne Falkenberg. I bought the kit on saturday in Kiel.  Falkenberg published a new design line with more summerly patterns. They come with a new type of yarn, it’s a wool/cotton blend. It’s composed of two threads, a woolen and a cotton one, which were plyed together. The cotton thread is indigo dyed (or natural, it depends on the colour), and the woolen one is dyed in a matching colour. I chose a beautiful blueish purple (it’s impossible to take a proper picture of this, sorry). The top is knitted in one piece, starting with the sleeve. Here the sleeve hole can be seen together with back and front of the top.

Es ist der 28. Juli, es ist sonnig, und draußen sind über 30 Grad (Celsius). Es ist schweineheiß, und ich gehe hinaus, an die Luft und in den Schatten.

It’s July 28, the sun is shining, it’s more than 30 degrees (Celsius). It’s fucking hot, and I go out to get some fresh air (in the shadow, of course).

Es gibt eine kleine Grünanlage mitten in Hamburg. Sie ist sehr zentral gelegen, aber nicht mal am Wochenende beim schönsten Wetter überlaufen. Hier ist mein Ziel: eine Bank im Schatten.

There is a small park in Hamburg. It’s located in the city, but even during the weekends it’s not too crowded. Here is the place I want to be, a shadowy bench under a tree.

Ich lasse mich häuslich nieder, mit meinem Strickzeug, einer Thermoskanne Tee, einem Krimi und allem, was man noch so braucht.

I make myself a home there. I take out my knitting, a bottle of tea, a mystery novel and everything one needs.

Der Ausblick ist erfreulich. Schön grün, nette Blumen, und keine Bekloppten, die stundenlang in der Sonne liegen.

The view is very enjoyable. Very green, nice flowers, and no idiots who lie in the sun for hours and hours and hours.

Dann wurde ich von irgenwelchen blöden Viechern gebissen und habe den Platz gewechselt. Hier war der Ausblick fast schon italienisch.

Then some stupid insects bit me, and I changed the bench. The view here could almost be called Italian.

Was diesen Park so angenehm macht, ist das viele Wasser. Neben einigen Wasserflächen …

… gibt es auch Springbrunnen, die richtig erfrischend sind, wenn man daneben sitzt.

Gestrickt habe ich natürlich auch. Und zwar das Sommermodell No. 3 Harmony von Hanne Falkenberg in einem phantastischen Indigo-Dunkelblau-Violett.

Of course I did some knitting, too. This is the summer pattern No. 3 Harmony by Hanne Falkenberg, and the colour is a phantastic indigo-dark blue-purple.

Am angenehmsten wäre es hier gewesen. Aber das ist halt nicht so schön.

The coolest place I’ve been today was here, but it’s not so nice for spending some time here.

Vor einem Jahr hätte ich die Frage, ob ich lieber mit Holz- oder Metallnadeln stricke, ohne zu Zögern mit “Holz” beantwortet. Heute ist das nicht mehr so einfach für mich. Als ich 2006 mit dem Stricken begann, hatte ich recht schnell die wunderbare Welt der Edelholznadeln entdeckt, und damit auch das sinnliche Vergnügen, diese Nadeln zu benutzen. Daran hat sich eigentlich nichts geändert.

One year ago I answered the question whether I prefer wooden or metal needles without hestiation: Wood, of course. Today it’s not that easy any more. When I started knitting in 2006 I quickly discovered the wonderful world of wooden needles, mostly made of ebony or rosewood, and the sensual joy of using them. Actually, this did not change until now.

Geändert hat sich meine Sicht der Dinge. Eines der ersten Projekte war Raspy, ein Pullover aus Rowan Denim, einem schönen Baumwollgarn, das ich sehr schätze. Ich strickte ihn mit Rosenholznadeln, und es war eine Qual: der Faden klebte an der Nadel, es ging langsam und mühsam voran, und ich hatte zerstochene Fingerkuppen. Die Sinnlichkeit litt beträchtlich, und das ließ mich für einige Zeit davon Abstand nehmen, Baumwolle zu verstricken.

I just changed my view on this. One of the first projects I knitted was Raspy, a sweater made of Rowan Denim. It’s a wonderful cotton yarn which I like very much. I used rosewood needles, and tortured myself with it. The yarn stuck to the needle, knitting was slow and exhausting, and my fingertips were pricked all over. This experience made me refrain from knitting with cotton yarn for some time.

Da es jedoch nicht angenehm ist, bei großer Hitze Wolle zu verstricken und ich einen Baumwollpullover haben wollte, gab ich der Sache eine neue Chance, diesmal mit Metallnadeln. Ich wurde angehenehm überrascht, wie leicht und schnell die Maschen von der Nadel gleiten und wie rasch ich vorankomme. Ich würde Baumwolle heute nie wieder mit Holznadeln verstricken, aber das ist wohl mal wieder eine Frage meiner gewachsenen Erfahrung.

Since it’s not very convenient to knit woolen items when it’s 30 or more degrees outside and I wanted to knit a cotton sweater again, I gave it a new chance. This time I used metal needles. I was surprised by the way the stitches just jumped off the needles, knitting with cotton became easy, quick, and very comfortable. Today I would never use wooden needless for cotton yarn again, but I think this is again a question of my steadily growing knitting experience.

Nachdem es hier im Norden momentan schweineheiß ist, kann ich mich zum Verstricken von Wolle und anderer wärmender Fasern nicht überwinden. Baumwolle geht aber noch, daher habe ich einen “Piratenstil”-Pullover aus Rowan Denim angeschlagen, der mein heimliches Seefahrerherz höher schlagen lässt. Das Muster stammt aus dem Buch Indigo Knits, allerdings stricke ich das Teil – wie immer eigentlich – in einem Stück.

 After it’s awfully hot here in northern Germany, I just don’t feel like knitting with wool and other warming fibres. Just cotton is o.k. Therefore I started to knit a summer sweater in a pirate-like style with Rowan Denim. The pattern is from the book Indigo Knits, but I’m knitting it in one piece – as usual.
