Zumindest sieht sie so aus, die Jacke Viften von Marianne Isager. Dies sind der Rücken und die Seitenteile, von denen das zweite über die Feiertage fertig wurde. Vor dem Nähen graut es mir schon, aber erst sind die Ärmel dran.

At least the Viften cardi by Marianne Isager looks a bit like this. This are the back an the sides; I just finished the second one. I don’t look forward to the sewing job at all, but first I anyway have to knit the sleeves.

Der Rücken der Viften-Jacke ist nun auch fertig. Das ging schnell, war abwechslungsreich und machte Spaß. Besonders schön ist das Garn: Artesano 100% Alpaca DK.

The back of the viften cardi is done now. It was a quick knit, not boring at all and brought lots of fun. I really fell for this yarn, it’s Artesano 100% Alpaca DK.

Und zwar das erste der Jacke Viften (Fächer) von Marianne Isager. Diese esoterische Konstruktion ist nicht einen Moment lang langweilig zu stricken, dafür ist die Anleitung so, wie die von Frau Isager allgemein zu sein pflegen: ungenau. Aber ich habe es hinbekommen. Es ist ein Ausgleich für das Mindless Knitting des grauen Pullovers und das Zwischenprojekt, bevor ich mich wieder in das Abenteuer Fair Isle flüchte.

It’s the first part of the Viften (fan) Cardigan by Marianne Isager. This rather esoteric construction is not boring to knit for a second, but the instruction is like all instructions by Ms. Isager use to be: quite imprecise. But I worked it out. It’s something I do besides the mindless knitting of the gray sweater and the project befor I start the big adventure of stranded knitting again.

Dies ist der Farbverlauf des riesigen Evillaknäuls, das ich auf Reisen fotografiert habe. Es wird eine weite, gerade geschnittene Strickjacke nach einer Anleitung von Dorothea Fischer. Es ist die dickere Garnqualität, die ich wegen des Maschenbildes mit Nadelstärke 3 verstricke.

This is the colour gradient of the giant ball of Evilla Artyarn I took a picture of in a train. This will become a rather boxy cardigan; the instructions are by Dorothea Fischer (sorry, available in German only). It’s the thicker version of the Evilla Artyarn which I knit with 3 mm needles for the sake of stitch definition.

Schon länger fertig, aber nun endlich mit Bild: Die Jacke Stumpen von Marianne Isager. Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis, nur leider ist es nun schon fast zu warm. Na ja, der nächste Herbst kommt bestimmt …

I finished this some time ago, but now I finally made a pic. This is the Stumpen Cardigan by Marianne Isager. I’m very satisfied with the result, but now it’s almost too warm to wear it. But there will be another autum …

Den Knopf finde ich recht passend zur dunkelvioletten Blende. Sehr gut gefällt mir auch der Kontrast zwischen dem Patentmuster und der Rechts-links-Passe.

I think the button makes a good match with the cardi, since it’s quite the same shade as the dark purple border. The detail I specially like is the contrast between the brioche stitch and the knit-purl-yoke.

Dies ist nun also die Abschlusskante am Ausschnitt, die – im Gegensatz zum Rest der Jacke – überhaupt keinen Spaß gemacht hat. Aber es ist geschafft. Nun fehlt nur noch der Knopf. Der erste Versuch, einen zu finden, war erfolglos. Wie es so ist, sie waren entweder zu klein, hatten die falsche Farbe oder waren eigenartig dekoriert. Morgen folgt der nächste Anlauf.

This is the border at the neckline which was – other than the rest – absolutely no fun to knit. But it’s done. The only thing that’s still to do is sewing a button – and here the trouble begins. The first attempt to find one failed. They were either to small or had the wrong colour or showed really weird decorations. Tomorrow I’ll try again.

Ich bedanke mich ganz herzlich bei allen, die mir in ihren Kommentaren ihre Meinung zur besten Kontrastfarbe für die hellgraue Isager-Jacke Stumpen kundgetan haben. Ich beuge mich (in diesem Fall jedenfalls) der Mehrheit und habe mich für ein sehr dunkles Aubergine entschieden. Die Aussicht auf eine Jacke in typischer Jäger-Farbigkeit war aber auch zu abschreckend, auch wenn ich eigentlich das mittlere Flaschengrün sehr mag.

Thank you very much for your very helpful comments regarding the possible contrast colours for the Isager cardi Stumpen. I decided to join the majority and chose a dark “eggplant” shade. I have to confess that the perspective to have a cardigan in hunter-like colours was not very couraging, although I like the medium bottle green yarn very much.

… make the striped effect on the sleeves of the Stumpen cardi by Marianne Isager. The pattern is almost mindless, but keeps me going since it’s not so boring to knit. I’m currently knitting the second sleeve, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sonderlich viel sieht man nicht, aber nun sind beide Vorderteile fertig und auch mit dem Rückenteil verbunden. Nach der Näherei, die ich erstaunlich anständig hinter mich brachte, folgt nun der erste Ärmel. Nun ist es auch vorbei mit der Schnellstrick-Herrlichkeit, denn die Ärmel zeigen dasselbe Rechts-Links-Muster wie die Passe vorne auch.

You can’t see too much on this picture, but both front parts are done now and sewn to the back. After the sewing which went amazinly well, I’m working on the first sleeve. Now the time of speed knitting is over because it’s not brioche but the same knit-purl pattern as shown on the front yoke.

Die Jacke bekommt übrigens noch einen Farbakzent: einen Zackenrand um den Ausschnitt herum. Im Original ist er in Anthrazit ausgeführt, doch das finde ich zum Hellgrau ein wenig trist. Nun schwanke ich zwischen Aubergine (Favorit), einem mittleren Flaschengrün und einem mittleren Blauviolett (mein zweiter Favorit). Ein dunkles Rot ginge auch. Meinungen hierzu?

Btw: There will be a small detail in a contrasting colour added: a spiky border around the neckline. The instructions call for a dark anthrazite grey, but I think this will be a bit dull with the light grey of the cardi. There are different possibilities: a dark aubergine (one of my favourites), a medium bottle green, a medium lavender shade (my second favourite), and a dark red. Any suggestions?
