Über Geschenke freut man sich ja immer, und wenn es dann noch so schöne Wolle ist … hach!!!

It’s always nice to receive a present, specially when it’s fine yarn. Who wouldn’t love it?

Ich habe gestern zwei Stränge Louet Gems in einem wunderschönen dunklen Indigo-Ton bekommen, und ich musste das Garn natürlich gleich ausprobieren, das heißt anstricken. Es ist reine Merinowolle, die auch oder eigentlich für Socken gedacht ist, aber ich habe erstens momentan so gar keine Lust auf Socken und wollte auch damit etwas anderes machen. Also entschied ich mich, das Tuch Ishbel von Ysolda Teague anzuschlagen. Das hatte ich schon in Wollmeise Suzanne begonnen, aber da gefiel mir die Kombination aus Garn und Muster nicht so gut. Dies ist also der zweite Anlauf, diesmal mit einem einfarbigen Garn.

Yesterday someone gave me two skeins of Louet Gems fingering weight in a wonderful dark indigo shade, and of course I had to try it immediately. It’s a pure merino sock yarn, but at the moment I don’t feel like knitting socks. So I started the smaller version of Ishbel by Ysolda Teague. I once started this with Wollmeise Suzanne, but I didn’t like how yarn and pattern interacted. So this is the second attempt, with a solid coloured yarn this time.

Zur Entspannung stricke ich ab und zu mal ein paar Quadrate an der Candy Stole von Vivian Hoxbro. Mir gefällt der Farbverlauf sehr, den das Noro-Sockengarn produziert. Ich arbeite mit zwei verschiedenen Farben (neben der nachtblauen Grundfarbe). Die Stola besteht aus zentralen Quadraten, die mittels seitlicher Dreiecke in eine rechteckige Form gebracht wird. Dies ist die Hälfte des ersten Quadrats und der Anfang des ersten Dreiecks (alle Klarheiten beseitigt?). Für die Quadrate und die Dreiecke nehme ich jeweils eine Farbe, um den Verlaufscharakter zu erhalten, aber einen gewissen Farbwechsel zu gewährleisten.

When I feel the need to relax I knit some squares for the Candy Stole by Vivian Hoxbro. I like the colour gradient of the Noro Kureyon Sock yarn very much. I work with two different colourings (except the deep dark blue main colour). The stole has a rectangular shape which is produced by centered squares which are flanked by triangles. The pic shows one half of the first square and a small part of the first triangle. For the squares I use a different colour than for the triangles for allowing the colour gradient to develop, and to assure a certain amount of change in colours.

Neben der Fair-Isle-Strickerei hält das modulare Stricken mich in seinem Bann. Dies ist die Candystripe Stole von Vivian Hoxbro aus ihrem neuen Buch Knit to be square. Die Designerin wählte eine Vielzahl von Farben, sodass das Ergebnis sehr bunt ausfällt. Ich habe mich für eine moderatere Variante entschieden. Die Grundfarbe ist ein tiefes Nachtblau (Wollmeise Mitternacht), und für die Streifen habe ich Noro Sockenwolle gewählt (oben im Anschnitt zu sehen). Ich mag die Verläufe, die dadurch entstehen. Außerdem finde ich den Kontrast zwischen dem dunklen, glatten Garn und der unregelmäßig ausgesponnenen Noro sehr reizvoll.

Not only fair isle knitting, but modular knitting fascinates me as well. This is the Candystripe Stole by Vivian Hoxbro from her new book Knit to be square. The designer chose a multitude of shades for thisone, and the result ist very colourful. I decided to go for a more moderate alternative. The main colour is a deep, rich, dark blue (Midnight by Wollmeise), and for the stripes I chose Noro Sock yarn (to be seen at the top of the picture). I just love the colour gradients as they come out. Besides this, I like the contrast between the even Wollmeise and the irregular spun Noro very much.

Nun sieht man wenigstens schon etwas … hinzugekommen sind die Sektionen 5 bis 10. Ein wenig erschreckend ist das schon, aber mich tröstet, dass das die “Buntstift-Abteilung” des Modells ist und an anderen Stellen die Farben harmonischer angeordnet werden.

Now one can see something after all … sections 5 to 10 were added. I’m a bit shocked by the colours, but this is the “crayola-part” of the scarf. Later the shades will look more harmonic.

Dies ist nun Sektion 2 des Color-on-Color-Schals. Ich gebe zu, es sieht noch ein wenig wurstelig aus. Dafür ist das häppchenweise Stricken sehr entspannend.

This is section no. 2 of the color on color-scarf. Yeah, I know, it looks a bit messy at the moment, but the one-section-a-day method is very relaxing.

Tammina sei dank habe ich mich heute ermannt und endlich damit begonnen, den Schal Color on Color von Kathryn Alexander zu stricken. Wenn man nach diesem Projekt bei Ravelry sucht, liest man viel von Frustration und ähnlichem. Naja, ich bin gespannt, gehe es locker an und stricke pro Tag eine Sektion. Dies ist also Sektion 1 in einem hellen Grün.

Thanks to Tammina I pulled myself together and started with the Color on Color scarf by Kathryn Alexander. When browsing through the knitters’ posts who did this, you can read a lot of frustration and disappointment. Well, I’ll see, I won’t overdo this and plan to knit one section each day. This is section 1 in a bright green.

Ich werde den Schal ohnehin nicht ganz genau so stricken können wie im Buch (Scarf Style, Pam Allen), denn ich musste auf ein anderes Garn ausweichen, einem Wollstickgarn von Anchor (ein normales Strickgarn wäre viel zu teuer, denn man braucht über 40 Farben in Kleinstmengen). Wenn mir eine Farbe fehlen sollte, werde ich improvisieren müssen, z. B. mit Wollmeise oder auch Selbstgesponnenem. Ich lasse es einfach auf mich zukommen.

I won’t be able to knit the scarf exactly in the same way it was done for the book (Scarf Style, Pam Allen), since I had to choose a different yarn than used. I bought a woolen embroidery yarn by Anchor (a handknitting yarn would be far too expensive, you only need smallest amounts but more than 40 colours). If I run out of one colour, I’ll have to improvise, maybe use some Wollmeise or some handspun. I’ll see.

Beim Falkenberg-Schal LaScala habe ich nun die Hälfte geschafft. Jetzt ist das Muster in seiner gesamten Farbigkeit zu erkennen. Und ich bin verliebt.

Mich hat die Starteritis auch erwischt: Jetzt habe ich den Schal LaScala von Hanne Falkenberg begonnen (sehr sinnvoll, angesichts der Temperaturen). Ich wollte das Webstrickmuster ausprobieren, das ich etwas abgewandelt auch für eine Strickjacke brauche. Es macht total Spaß, und das Material ist einfach herrlich. Und die Farben… *schwärm*. Naja, dann wird er wenigstens zum Herbst fertig.

I felt the urge to begin a new project: I started with the LaScala Scarf by Hanne Falkenberg (well, it doesn’t really make sense to knit a scarf in the middle of summer, but this is knitters’ logic, I fear). I wanted to try the so-called “Weaved Knitting Pattern” which I need for a cardigan as well. It’s really fun to knit and the yarn is just phantastic. And the colours are absolutely great, vivid and clear. I’m just delighted. Well, at least it will be finished until autumn, I hope.

Der Rand des Schals ist geschafft, ich habe ihn um fünf Mustersätze verbreitert, da ich mir eher ein Tuch wünsche als noch einen Schal (Ich habe diesen Winter sechs Stück gestrickt, und was ist? Frühlingshafte Temperaturen!). Es macht sehr viel Spaß, aber der Grass-Basket Shawl hat natürlich Vorrang. Schnell ging es übrigens auch. Ich bin dankbar, dass ich mich nicht ausschließlich der Lace-Strickerei verpflichtet fühle. Der Schal ist aus Uru-Wolle und gewichtsmäßig ein Hauch von Nichts. Da würde ich meinen Stash in 10-Gramm-Schritten reduzieren.

The border of my lace shawl is done. I knitted twelve repeats of the pattern instead of seven (as suggested in the book “Victorian Lace Today”). I knitted six scarves this winter and what happened? We have almost spring-like temperatures here in Hamburg. It’s really fun to knit, but the Grass-Basket shawl has priority. But thisone is really quickly knitted. But I’m grateful I did not dedicate my fiber activities to lace knitting exclusively. I use Uru-wool-yarn for it, and the weight is close to zero. Going on like this, I would hardly use up a pound of my stash this year.
