Auch wenn’s blöd klingt, ich bin stolz auf mich, denn ich habe mein erstes Projekt der Reihe Hommage a Kaffe Fassett fertig. Es ist ein Cowl im Muster Persian Poppies, gestrickt in Doppelstrick-Technik. Die Idee für dieses ausgefallene und aufwändige Projekt (man strickt es ja quasi zweimal, also doppelt, haha) hat mehrere Quellen.

Even if it does sound a bit silly, I’m proud of myself because I finished the first project of the Hommage a Kaffe Fasset-series. It’s a cowl in the pattern called Persian Poppies, knitted in double knitting technique. More than one source inspired me to do this unusual and rather elaborate project (you have to knit it twice).

  1. Das Muster Persian Poppies ist das, was mich am meisten von allen Fassett-Mustern fasziniert, obwohl es so schön einfach ist. Ich habe es lange in meinem Kopf hin und her bewegt, immer auf der Suche nach der besten Umsetzung, doch ohne ein Projekt damit zu beginnen. Das änderte sich mit einer Wolllieferung (siehe Punkt 2).
  2. Die Märzlieferung des Wollmeise Sock Clubs bestand aus zwei Farben, die sich so kongenial ergänzten, dass dafür ein Sockenmuster in Fair-Isle-Technik beilag, bei dem beide Farben miteinander kombiniert werden. Das Muster selbst erinnerte mich fatal an Fassetts Persian Poppies. Ich war von den Farben so begeistert, dass ich den Wunsch hatte, etwas daraus zu stricken, das dauerhafter und sichtbarer wäre als ein Paar Socken, und so kam ich auf die Idee, einen Cowl zu stricken.
  3. Das Muster Tapestry Cowl (Ravelry-Link) verwendet die Doppelstrick-Technik, allerdings floral interpretiert und mit einem wesentlich dickeren Garn. Ich musste also mit dem Sockengarn wesentlich mehr Maschen anschlagen und natürlich das Muster berechnen (was allerdings sehr einfach ist).

  1. The Persian Poppies pattern is maybe the one that fascinates me most of all of Kaffe Fassett’s patterns, because of its simplicity. Since I saw it I wanted to use it for a project, but I did rethink it again and again, without getting started. This changed after a yarn delivery I received in early March.
  2. The March yarn delivery of the Wollmeise Sock club stunned me with its splendid, wonderful colours which make a perfect match. Even the pattern provided suggests to use both shades together for a sock, and this very strongly reminded me of Fassett’s Persian Poppies. Besides this, I wanted to use this wonderful yarn for something more enduring and more visible than a pair of socks, and so the idea was born to knit a cowl.
  3. The Tapestry Cowl pattern (Ravelry link) uses the double knitting technique but calls for a yarn which is much thicker than my thin sock yarn, and the pattern is floral. I had to cast on much more stitches and had to calculate the pattern anew (which was fairly easy, to be honest).

Ich kann sagen, dass ich wirklich glücklich bin mit diesem Projekt und dass es mir als Stricktechnik-Freak viel Spaß gemacht hat, es zu stricken. Die Doppelstrick-Technik ist hervorragend geeignet für Cowls, da das recht dicke Gestrick dem Stück genügend Stand verleiht. Für den Rest des Garns fällt mir sicher auch noch was ein … :D

I can tell I’m really happy with this project and, as a knitting tech freak I really enjoyed knitting it. The double knitting technique is great for a cowl since it’s rather thik and makes it standing up very nicely. I’m sure I’ll have a good idea for the rest of the yarn, too. :D
