Zwei neue Bücher gibt es auch. Das erste widmet sich gestrickten und shibori-gefilzten Modellen. Bei dieser Technik wird eine plastische Struktur erstellt, mittels Abbinden oder auch stricktechnisch, und gegebenenfalls wird dann auch gefilzt. Das Buch ist sehr schön und enthält viele Anregungen. Mir gefallen zwar längst nicht alle Modelle, aber die Struktur macht jedes einmalig und ist eine sehr ergiebige Quelle der Inspiration.

Gina Wilde – Shibori Knits. The Art of Exquisite Felted Knits, Potter Craft

I got two new books lately. The firstone is dedicated to knitted and/or shibori-felted items. This is a special technique, you produce a three-dimensional fabric by knitting it or by binding parts of it together before felting. The book is really beautiful and contains lots of material for inspiration. I don’t like all the patterns in it, but the three-dimensionality makes every item to an unique one and is a great source for processing it with other items or patterns.

Das zweite Buch finde ich einen ziemlichen Knaller, es ist das erste, das mich dazu brachte, mich mit modularem Stricken zu beschäftigen. Knit to be Square vermittelt zunächst die Technik, die man braucht, um die Modelle nacharbeiten zu können. Alle Gegenstände sind aus Vierecken gearbeitet, die beim Stricken zu zwei- oder dreidimensionalen Objekten zusammengesetzt werden. Es handelt sich überwiegend um Accessoires wie Schals, Mützen, Taschen, es gibt aber auch Kissen und eine wunderschöne Decke fürs eigene Nest und – am Schluss – sogar durchbrochen gearbeitete Modelle. Für mich ist dieses Buch ein Muss, denn das grafisch-klare Design ist ein wohltuendes Gegengewicht zu den momentan allgegenwärtigen Rüschen.

Vivian Hoxbro: Knit to be Square. Domino Designs to knit and felt, Interweave Press

The second book is just a smash it for me. It’s the firstone which persuaded me to try modular knitting. Knit to be square teaches the basic techniques you need to knit the patterns first. All items are worked in squares which are composed to two- or three-dimensional items. You find mostly accessoires in this books, i. e. hats, scarves, bags, but some interieur knitting as well (pillows, a beautiful afghan), and, last but not least, knitting incomplete squares. This book is a must for me, since prefer the graphic and distinct design more than ruffles which seem to be omnipresent at the moment.
