Wie gut, dass ich als Strickerin im lokalen Einzelhandel kaum fündig werde. Meine Kaufräusche finden überwiegend online statt. Heute kamen zwei Pakete an, eines mit Büchern und DVDs. Bag Style musste ich nach der Vorschau unbedingt haben, und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Ich mag nicht alle “Style”-Bücher, z. B. Wrap Style (ich trage keine Wraps, ich esse sie), oder auch Folk Style (habe nichts darin gefunden, was ich arbeiten möchte, und inspiriert hat es mich auch nicht). Die hier versammelten Taschen decken stilistisch eine große Bandbreite ab, von klassisch bis ausgefallen, von gehäkelt bis gefilzt, von winzig bis riesig.

The Best of Interweave Knits ist auch angekommen, mit wunderschönen Modellen aus zehn Jahren. Keine modischen Verfehlungen, sondern tragbare, eher klassische Designs, die mehr als eine Saison überdauern. Besonders interessant ist, dass zwischen den einzelnen Modellen sehr informative Erklärungen zu den Techniken abgedruckt sind, wie man sie aus den Heften kennt. Jemand, der alle Jahrgänge der Interweave Knits besitzt, wird an dem Buch wenig Freude haben, aber ein Noob wie ich, der erst seit anderthalb Jahren strickt, spart sich den Nachkauf vieler Hefte damit.

Auch dabei: Drei DVDs von Lucy Neatby zum Thema Stricktechnik.

The local yarn stores don’t attract me much, therefore I have to buy online. Today two parcels arrived, one with books and DVDs. After browsing through the bag style preview, I just had to order it (it was stronger than me…). It’s really a great book. I like many tomes of the style-series, but not all of them, like wrap style (I don’t wear wraps, I eat them) or folk style (I didn’t find any pattern in it  I wanted to knit, and it didn’t inspire me at all). The bags shown in this book show a multitude of styles and kinds, you find timeless classics, stylish and hip patterns, crocheted, knitted and felted bags, tiny purses and huge satchels. For me this book was a must. 

The Best of Interweave Knits holds wonderful patterns from ten years of the Interweave Knits Magazine. No misconducts of fashion but rather timeless patterns which can be worn for more than one season. Elaborate explainations of knitting techniques can be found as well. This book might not be of interest for someone who is a long time subscriber, but for a noob like me who knits for one and a half year it’s just great, so I don’t have to get all the old magazines.

And there are three DVDs by Lucy Neatby about knitting techniques.

Dies sehr schwarze Bild trifft ungefähr die Farbe des naturschwarzen Islandwolle-Kammzuges. Ich finde die Farbe einfach großartig. Wie bei allen naturbelassenen Rohfasern weist auch dieser eine Schattierung auf, die durch Färbung nicht zu erreichen ist. Dies wird ein Pullover und auch ein paar Selbu-Handschuhe.

This very black picture  shows the natural black Iceland roving. I just love the colour. As with all the undyed fibres it has a shade that is impossible to achieve with chemical dyes. I will spin it and knit a sweater as well as a pair of Selbu mittens. 

Dies noch schwärzere Bild zeigt schwarzen Alpaka-Kammzug, der ebenfalls heute ankam. Dazu wurde ich in einem kleinen Laden in Altona fündig, und zwar mit diesen bezaubernden Knöpfen. Die Strassknöpfe sind für den  Union Square Market Pullover. Die großen Perlmuttknöpfe werde ich für Taschen verwenden.

This even blacker pic shows black alpaca roving which arrived today, too. The buttons I found in a small Altona shop by accident. The rhinestone buttons will be used for a glam version of the Union Square Market Pullover, the big mother of pearl ones probably for bags.

Zu guter Letzt noch zwei Hornknöpfe. Sie sind recht groß, und ich habe nicht die leiseste Ahnung, wofür ich sie verwenden werde. Aber sie sind reizend, nicht wahr?

Last but not least I bought two buttons made of bullhorn. I don’t have the slightest idea what to do with them, but they are adorable, aren’t they?
