Gestern auf den letzten Drücker fertig geworden und heute schon hier im Blog: die Socke des Monats Juni. Als Thema habe ich diesmal Birkenrinde gewählt, da ich mit diesem Baum eine recht starke Verbindung habe: Er erinnert mich an die Sommersonnenwende und ist außerdem der Totembaum Osteuropas (wo meine Mutter herkommt). Die verwendete Wolle trägt praktischerweise den gleichen Namen. Ich habe jedoch überlegt, wie ich das Thema noch stärker ausarbeiten könnte als durch die Verwendung dieses Garns. Also habe ich ein Muster eingearbeitet, dessen Verlauf sich nach dem des Materials richtet – die Wolle bestimmte also, wo es stricktechnisch langgeht. Das Ergebnis sieht vielleicht ein wenig eigenartig aus, und es kommen auch keine zwei gleichen Socken raus, was ich aber nicht schlimm finde, da ich an gentechnisch veränderten Birken aus Prinzip nicht interessiert bin. Das Ergebnis ist jedenfalls ein plastisches, unregelmäßiges Querrippenmuster. Die Sohle ist aus Gründen des Komforts glatt rechts gestrickt.

Yesterday I finished my sock of the month for June (I know, it was the very last moment to be on time), but here they are. The theme of the month was “birch”, a tree I feel strongly connected to. For me, it’s the tree of summer solstice, and it’s the totem tree of Eastern Europe, where my mother is from. The yarn I used is named birchbark, but I wanted to have a stronger connection to the months’s theme than just by the use of this self-striping yarn. So I used a simple pattern which was directed by the colour gradient of the yarn exclusively. The result is somewhat spontaneous and might look a bit strange, and the two socks are no real lookalikes. I don’t mind about this, since I was inspired by nature, and I am not interested in genetically modified birches at all. The sole is knitted in stockinette for the sake of wearing comfort.
