Ich habe ein zweites Paar Monkey-Socken fertig, die ich nach ihrer Farbe Deep Sea Monkeys genannt habe. Es hat wieder viel Spaß gemacht, zog sich jedoch etwas hin. Ich werde kein zweites Mal ein Muster in so schneller Folge nochmals stricken, aber ich mag es so gerne, dass ich unbedingt ein zweites Paar haben wollte.

I just finished a second pair of Monkey Socks and called them Deep Sea Monkeys, due to their colour. It was again a lot of fun, but they were not done as quickly as the firstone. I think I won’t knit the same pattern after such a short time, but I like it so much that I wanted to have a second pair.

Gestern war ich zur Farbberatung. Meine Strickfreundin Cleo hat das nämlich gelernt, und ich war neugierig. Es war sehr gründlich, sehr verständlich, sehr professionell, sehr aufschlussreich … und nicht ganz das, was ich erwartet hatte. Ich wußte, dass ich in warmen Farben aussehe, wie ein Stück Käse (oder, wie Cleo sagte: Tod auf Latschen), also ein Kaltfarbentyp bin. Nur war ich bisher der Überzeugung, ein Sommer-Winter-Mischtyp zu sein. Das war mir mal gesagt worden, aber vielleicht wusste ich instinktiv, dass es nicht ganz richtig ist, und entschied mich deshalb für einen neuen Versuch. Nach der Farbberatung war jedoch klar, dass ich in die Sommerecke gehöre. Das ist insofern interessant, als ich gerne zu dunkleren Farben greife. Dennoch konnte ich klar sehen, dass die etwas helleren Varianten eigentlich günstiger für mich sind. Jetzt mache ich ja keine Farbberatung, damit meine bisherige Meinung bestätigt wird. Und ich kann nicht anders als einzusehen, dass Cleo Recht hat mit ihrer Einschätzung.

Yesterday I visited one of my knitting friends for getting a colour consultation. Cleo is a professional colour consultant and I was curious what she might find out. It was very systematic, very professional, very prolific, very comprehensible … but slightlich different from what I expected. I already knew that warm colours are not mine – I look like death in sandals (apricot was the worst). I’m very much the type for cool colours, and I was told once that I’m a sommer-winter-type. Maybe I was not totally convinced about this, and that’s why I decided to get another consultation – who knows? Afterwards it was very clear that I’m – a summer type. This is interesting insofar, as I like wearing darker shades. But I had to appreciate that the lighter, not so blazing colours are better for me. Well, I’m not taking a colour consultation for getting confirmed entirely, and I have to admit that Cleo is totally right.

Ich bin froh, dass ich meinen Kleiderschrank nicht umkrempeln muss – vieles, was ich trage, ist richtig, nicht ist total falsch. Es ist auch kein Problem, die dunkleren Töne weiterhin zu verwenden, nur werde ich das nicht mehr ohne Make-up tun. Ich bin also sehr zufrieden.

I am happy that I don’t have to turn my wardrobe upside down – many garments I wear match my colour type, nothing is entirely wrong. It won’t be a problem using the darker shades in the future, but I learned not to do this without wearing make-up. I am very pleased.

Kein Fast Food, sondern ein Gourmet-Menu in stricktechnischer Hinsicht bietet das Buch Stricken ? la carte der dänischen Designerin Marianne Isager. Dieses schöne Werk traf heute bei mir ein, und ich bin sehr angetan. Die Modelle sind ungewöhnlich, überwiegend mit klassisch-zeitlosem Touch und sehr tragbar. Fast alle sind in der für Isager typischen Strickweise, nämlich einem Mix aus rechten und linken Maschen samt “Richtungswechsel” gestrickt, oft auch mit mehreren Farben. Das ergibt sehr klare, strukturierte Strickstücke abseits des Üblichen. Das ungewöhnliche, durchdachte Design macht exotische Garne überflüssig: gedacht sind diese Modelle für eine glatte, hochwertige Schurwolle ohne Chi-Chi.

Ein besonderer Hingucker sind die Sommertops, aber auch die ungewöhnlichen Pullover und Jacken. Ich werde sicherlich mehr als ein Model aus diesem Buch stricken und mir dazu auch das hochwertige Originalgarn leisten.

Jetzt ist es endlich auch bei mir angekommen, das Buch Lace Style von Pam Allen und Ann Budd. Nachdem die Reaktionen etwas verhalten waren (”ganz nett”, “kein Muss”), war ich natürlich besonders neugierig und habe es mir daraufhin ganz genau angesehen. Und bin zu einem etwas anderen Urteil gekommen.

Eventually, even I received my copy of the book Lace Style by Pam Allen and Ann Budd. The opinions about this book, uttered by some fellow knitters, were a bit restrained (”quite nice”, “not a must”). Therefore I was very curious and took a very close look on it. And my adjudgement is slightly different.

Wenn es nach der Anzahl der Modelle geht, die ich konkret nachstricken möchte, so gebe ich meinen Strickkolleginnen recht: Es sind nur wenige. Aber in einem ist das Buch einfach unschlagbar: Es eröffnet einen neuen Blick auf die Strickart Lace, abseits von Tuch und Stola. Mir geht es daher nicht darum, genau die vorgestellten Modelle in exakt dem angegebenen Muster nachzuarbeiten, sondern dass das Buch mich enorm inspiriert, mit Lace in ungewöhnlichem Zusammenhang zu experimentieren. Sehr hilfreich ist der Anhang, der einige Tipps für eigene Entwürfe bzw. laceige Modifikationen bereithält. Insofern ist das Buch für mich sehr lohnend.

Regarding the number of patterns I concretely want to knit, I have to agree: there are only a few. Anyhow, this book is rather unique, since it allows a different view on lace and lacey knitting, aloof from shawls and stoles. For me it is not so important to knit the suggested garments and patterns. I get enormously inspired by it, and that’s the point for me. It imbues me to try lace in a different context. For this the appendix is very helpful, it’s filled with tips and tricks how to design lacey garments or modificate simpleones with the help of lace. Therefore this book was worth the price for me.

Wollfreaks ihre wertvollen Schätze motten und ungeziefersicher machen.
Bei meinem inzwischen recht beachtlichen Vorrat an Wolle (alles quer durch
den Gemüse- ähm Wollgarten) habe ich doch echt Angst vor unliebsamen
Besuch.
Und massiv Gift möchte ich nicht so gerne in meine Wohnung packen.

Meine Wollvorräte lagern in Plastikkisten, zusammen mit Zedernholzscheiben. Zusätzlich sprühe ich die Wolle in regelmäßigen Abständen mit einem Spray aus Neem-Öl ein. Hat bisher gut funktioniert, Anti-Motten-Gift verwende ich nicht und möchte ich auch nicht verwenden.

Nachdem ich ein großzügiges Geldgeschenk erhielt, musste ich das natürlich umsetzen, und heute ist es angekommen: Ich habe mir zwei Strickpackungen geleistet, beides Modelle, von denen ich fasziniert bin. Die Linke ist die Strickjacke Jazz von Hanne Falkenberg, allerdings in einer anderen Farbzusammenstellung als auf dem Bild. Rechts ist das Material für den Pullover Mönch von Marianne Isager in der Farbe Gewitterblau. Jetzt muss ich mich ranhalten mit dem Simple Knitted Bodice, damit ich eins von beiden anfangen kann!

After I got a very generous gift of money, I had to spend it (of course), and today the parcel arrived: I ordered two knitting kits. The two patterns are of the kind which fascinate me a lot. On the left you can see the cardigan Jazz by Hanne Falkenberg. I just chose a medium blueish grey instead of beige. On the right is the hooded sweater Monk by Marianne Isager in a very dark blue (”Thunderstorm Blue”). Now I have to hurry up and finish the Simple Knitted Bodice, since I can hardly wait to start with one of theseones.

Ich möchte noch viele schöne Dinge stricken, aber diese werden nicht darunter sein. Ehrlich.

• Dreiecktücher  oder runde Tücher – trage ich nicht, passt nicht zu mir
• Bettjacken etc. – trage ich nicht
• Spülllappen – alles, was recht ist. Wozu Energie hineinstecken, wenn man sie aus hygienischer Microfaser für wenig Geld kaufen kann?
• Barbiepuppenkleider – ich HASSE Barbiepuppen
• Handysocken – ich habe kein Handy, und wenn, würde ich eher etwas wasserfestes für sinnvoll halten
• Socken für mp3-Player – auch hier würde ich eine wasserfeste Hülle für sinnvoll halten, abgesehen davon ist das Gefussel für die Geräte nicht gut.
• Hosen
• Miniaturkleidungsstücke – Verschwendung von Zeit und Energie, Staubfänger

I want to knit many, many things in my life, but theseones I’m going to avoid to knit, not for love nor money. Really.

• Dishcloths – can be purchased for little money and of more suitable materials

• Cell phone jackets – I don’t use a cell phone. But if I did, I would rather buy a waterproof covering.
• mp3-player jackets – I use one, but prefer a waterproof covering. Besides this, the fuzziness of knitted jackets can damage the electronics.

Eine Teillieferung meiner Buchbestellung ist angekommen. Ich bin sehr angetan, besonders von Favorite Socks und Sensational Knitted Socks. Nun ist aber wirklich fast alles da.

A partial delivery of the books I ordered just arrived. I am delighted – the ones I like best after taking a quick look are Favorite Socks and Sensational Knitted Socks. There are still a few books missing, but soon everything will be with me, I hope.

Nachdem ich More Stripes in Windeseile beendete (das strickte sich aber auch wirklich sehr schnell), habe ich nun wieder ein anspruchsvolleres Projekt begonnen: den Simple Knitted Bodice. Das Material ist blaue Chinaseide, zusammen mit blaugrünen Perlen. Es handelt sich um einen Raglanschnitt, der von oben gestrickt ist. Das ist für mich mal wieder eine Premiere und eine Herausforderung (wobei ich es eigentlich einfach finde, wenn ich ehrlich sein soll. Viel sieht man noch nicht, aber es geht gut voran, die Seide verstrickt sich angenehm und hat einen sehr schönen Glanz.

After finishing More Stripes in no time (it really can be done very quickly), I started a project yesterday which is more challenging: the Simple Knitted Bodice. I use blue Chinese silk for it, together with greenish-blue beads. Basically, it’s a raglan knitted from the top – something I never did before. Since it’s a new technique for me, it’s this project’s challenge, but – to be honest – it’s fairly easy and fun to knit. You won’t see much of the sweater yet, but I get along well. The material is very smoothly to knit with and has a nice shine.

Pullunder mag ich nicht, ich habe auch keine. Das änderte sich, als ich in der aktuellen knitty.com das Modell More Stripes entdeckte. Ich fand es witzig und erkannte sein Potential in Verbindung mit meinen geliebten schwarzen T-Shirts und Jeans. Es war einfach und schnell gestrickt, enthielt jedoch insofern eine Herausforderung, als man den Ausschnitt mittels eines Steeks und einer Schere formen sollte. Zunächst änderte ich jedoch den Schnitt dahingehend, dass ich bis zum Ausschnitt in Runden strickte. Ich verwendete das Originalgarn, Noro Silk Garden, und weiß, dass die Einhaltung von Rapporten nicht unbedingt Noros starke Seite sind. Ich habe jedenfalls auch die Herausforderung mit Steeks und Schere bewältigt und fand das überraschend einfach. Ich wollte diese Technik lieber mit einem einfachen Teil probieren, dessen obere Vorderseite im Ernstfall schnell nachgestrickt werden kann, als mit einem Fair-Isle-Pullover mit gefühlten 100 Milliarden Maschen.

I don’t like slipovers normally, and I don’t wear them. This changed dramatically after browsing through the latest issue of knitty com, after viewing the pattern More Stripes. I thought it would be fun to knit it and discovered its potential if worn together with my beloved black T-shirts and Jeans. The pattern is rather easy and quickly done, but it has one detail which is quite challenging: the neckline is formed by using the steek method. I never did this before. I thought it would be a good idea to give this method a try with a garmend which upper front could be redone in no time if something went wrong, rather than with a Fair-Isle sweater and its appr. 100 billions of stitches. I changed the pattern a bit and worked in rounds until I reached the neckline, since I used the yarn suggested, Noro Silk Garden. It’s a gorgeous yarn, but repeats can be a problem with Noro, and so sewing can be a problem as well.

Wie auch immer, es ist fertig und gefällt mir sehr. Ich finde es witzig und sehr gut dafür geeignet, schlichte Klamotten aufzupeppen. Eine Strickkollegin meinte in ihrem Blog, dass Noro ein wenig wie selbstmusternde Sockenwolle wäre. Sie hat damit m. E. auch recht, dennoch finde ich es für Einzelstücke mal ganz witzig. Der Schnitt betont übrigens die Oberweite ziemlich, was bei mir nicht unbedingt von Nachteil ist, von besser bestückten Strickerinnen jedoch als Nachteil empfunden werden kann.

However, it’s done, and I like it very much. I think it’s a witty garment and very convenient for spicing up plain clothes. A knitter once wrote in her blog that Noro is quite like self striping sock yarn, and of course she’s right. But I think it’s a nice yarn for unique garments. The cut brings out the bust, and this is absolutely no disatvantage for me. But more “curvy” people might feel different about this.
