Es ist geschafft, der Cardigan for Arwen ist fertig. Es hat Spaß gemacht, er passt und ich finde ihn auch schön. Und die Farbe ist alles andere als naturgetreu auf dem Foto.
Und nun kommt das “Aber”. Was Tina über dieses Modell geschrieben hat, kann ich bestätigen. Er passt, aber nicht perfekt, und die Kapuze ist ein Thema für sich. Es ist recht mühsam, sie so auf den Rücken zu legen, dass sie wirklich glatt und mittig anliegt.
Ich bin nicht unzufrieden, aber ich würde dieses Modell nicht nochmal stricken. Ich denke da an meinen geliebten Guernsey, den ich letztes Jahr gemacht habe. Der wurde auf traditionelle Weise gestrickt, ich musste alles berechnen, aber er fühlt sich an, als wäre ich darin geboren. Wer meinen Blog regelmäßig liest, wird mitbekommen haben, dass ich mich neuerdings mit traditionellen Strickweisen sowie den von E. Zimmermann beschriebenen Techniken beschäftige. Dies werde ich weiter verfolgen, da die dem menschlichen Körper gerechter werden (manche Modelle aus Büchern passen noch nicht mal den Models, die sie vorführen…).
Das heißt nicht, dass ich nicht zufrieden bin. Ich werde die Jacke auch tragen. Sie gefällt mir, und ich habe beim Stricken viel gelernt. Und mir ist das Zusammennähen noch nie so gut gelungen wie hier. Ich mache Fortschritte!

It is done, I finished the Cardigan for Arwen yesterday. It was fun, it fits, and I like it. Unfortunately the light here is not perfect, therefore the colour doesn’t come out the way it’s supposed to do.
BUT – and there is a but… I can confirm heartily what a German blogger, Tina, already wrote about it: It fits quite well, but not perfect, And the hood… it is quite difficult to have it lying on the back properly.
I am not disaffected, but when I think of my beloved Cornish Guernsey which I knitted last year, I feel the difference. The Guernsey I did in the traditional way, in rounds, with all the maths one has to do. But wearing it feels like I was born in it. And this is not the case with Arwen. Maybe I’m spoiled, but during the last weeks I stroke new paths in knitting, starting with the guernsey. I purchased some books about traditional knitting and became very fond of this way of knitting (especially the Zimmermann way). To be honest: keeping a closer look on books and magazines one can clearly see that some of the garments do not even fit the models who wear them. Therefore I am encouraged to follow the new path and give my knitting a new direction.
But I still like Arwen and I am going to wear it. Knitting it taught me a lot, including new techniques I never did before. And it is the first garment I managed to sew neatly.
