Am letzten Tag des Jahres ist es nicht zur Zeit, eine kleine Bilanz zu ziehen, sondern auch, meine aktuellen Projekte im Bild vorzustellen (was bisher noch nicht geschehen ist).

This is my last post in 2006, and therefore it is time to take stock of my knitting activities and to illustrate my latest projects with some pictures.

Zunächst wäre der “Cardigan for Arwen” aus der IWK. Der hat es mir ja besonders angetan, so dass ich trotz meiner Stash-Reduktions-Absichten noch im alten Jahr die Wolle dafür bestellen mußte (aber seitdem bin ich eisern geblieben!). Mein entzücktes Auge fiel auf den helleren Violettton der “Royal Tweed” von Lana Grossa, deren Farbe leider nicht akkurat wiedergegeben werden kann. Das Garn ist wesentlich unregelmäßiger als das im Original
verwendete, was der Jacke einen völlig anderen Charakter gibt. Der Effekt gefällt mir jedoch sehr gut, und außerdem bin ich nicht Arwen, sondern Jinx.

First of all there is the “Cardigan for Arwen” from the winter issue 2006 of the IWK. I fell for it from the very first moment I opened the magazine. I fell so much for it that I HAD to order some yarn for it (never mind my effords in stash reduction… but I stuck to them since then, I promise!). I chose a yarn I really love, the “Royal Tweed” from Lana Grossa in a medium violet. Unfortunately the colour doesn’t come out correctly. The yarn is much more irregular than the one used for the pattern in IWK, but I like the effect very much. Besides that, I’m not Arwen, I’m Jinx. So what?

Das Hauptprojekt ist jedoch der Grass-Basket Cropped Ruana Shawl aus dem Buch “Arctic Lace”, der eigentlich im Original eine Weste ist. Ich stricke ihn für meine Mutter zum Geburtstag, da diese zu Weihnachten ihre Vorliebe für Gelbgrün offenbarte. Es ist mir absolut schleierhaft, wie ich das schaffen soll, aber die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt…
Das Material ist zwar unorthodox, aber ich bin völlig begeistert davon: Es ist Sockenwolle von der Wollmeise in der Farbe Farn. Anders als normale Sockenwolle hat sie keine Kunstfaserbeimischung und ist sehr schön weich und damit für ein Tuch gut geeignet. Die Farbe ist überhaupt unerreicht, ich freue mich schon, “meine” Tönungen (Am kalten Polar und Poison Nr. 5) ebenfalls in Tücher umzusetzen.

My main project is the Grass-Basked Cropped Ruana Shawl from the book “Arctic Lace”. I changed it a bit, since in the book it’s a vest, but I knit a shawl. It’s a birthday present for my mother who told me on Christmas that a yellowish, strong green is her favourite colour. It’s still cryptical to me how I can finish it until January 15th (her birthday), but there’s still room for hope (I am an optimist…)
The material I use is quite unusual, since it’s Wollmeise’s sock wool. The colour is called “fern” (is it green or is it GREEN?). It is rather different from usual sock wool: there is no synthetic fiber added and it is much softer and so very adequate for a shawl. The colour is phantastic and I look forward to knit some more shawls for me, but with “my” colours (Poison No. 5 and At the cold Polar Circle)

2006 war insgesamt ein tolles, sehr glückliches Jahr für mich. Meine stricktechnische Bilanz sieht folgendermaßen aus:

• Ich entdeckte das Stricken und damit ein phantastisches Hobby und eine neue Welt.
• Ich lernte dadurch viele nette Menschen kennen, ob im Internet oder im RL.
• Ich kaufte viele Bücher, von denen ich nur ganz, ganz wenige nicht gut finde.
• Ich kaufte viel zuviel Wolle, von denen ich nur wenige Garne nicht gut finde.
• Dies führte mich zu der Aktion Knit from your Stash. Dieser widme ich mich mit voller Überzeugung. Die Garne, die mir nicht gefallen, werde ich verkaufen (1…2…3…)
• Ich lernte auch ein paar eigenartige Menschen kennen, aber hier gilt, was auch außerhalb der StrickerInnenwelt für mich quasi ein Lebensprinzip ist: Ich muss nicht alles annehmen, was an mich herangetragen wird, manches ist mir einfach zu wirr und zu wenig nachvollziehbar, anderes ist mir schlicht fremd. Und ich suche mir aus, wie ich auf was reagiere.
• Es ist mit vereinten Kräften gelungen, in Hamburg einen regelmäßigen Stricktreff zu reaktivieren, der für mich ein fester Termin geworden ist, den ich nicht missen möchte.
• Ich wurde nicht nur zur begeisterten Strickerin, sondern auch zur Strickbloggerin, was mir viel Spaß macht.

Insgesamt ist das doch nicht schlecht, oder?

Ich wünsche all meinen LeserInnen ein schönes und glückliches Jahr 2007, auf dass uns die Wolle und die Ideen nie ausgehen mögen!

2006 was a phantastic and very happy year for me. Regarding my knitting I can declare the following:

• I started knitting after a break of more than twenty years. This meant to me to find a phantastic hobby and to discover a new world.
• Due to my knitting activities, I met very nice and friendly people, at the internet as well as in the real life.
• I bought many books which I do not want to miss (well, only a few, for being honest).
• I bought far too much yarn which I really live (with very few exceptions).
• This brought me to Knit from your Stash. From which I think it will be very good for me. The yarns in my stash I don’t like I am going to sell.
• I also met some rather strange people in the wide world of knitters. But here I act as I always do: I do not have to accept everything which is brought to me. Some things are to addleheaded, some too strange, but I have the choice how to react (or not).
• A group of knitters in Hamburg managed to re-establish a knitters’ meeting in public on a regular base. These are dates I really enjoy and which I do not want to miss.
• I did not ony become a knitter, but a knit-blogger as well. And it’s fun.

It’s not all bad, isn’t it?
