Ich habe mir etwas überlegt: ich bin ein Buchfreak und liebe schöne Strickbücher. Daher werde ich in meinem Blog in loser Folge Strickbücher vorstellen und versuchen, zu erklären, warum ich sie mag oder nicht so gut finde. Den Anfang macht ein Buch über Schals

Als Fan ausgefallener Accessoires habe ich mir das Buch bestellt, ohne es vorher angesehen zu haben, und ich bin begeistert. Über 30 Modelle namhafter Strickdesigner sind in diesem Buch versammelt. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf rechteckigen Schals eher kompakter Machart. Es sind einfach zu arbeitende Modelle dabei, aber auch sehr aufwändige. Egal ob man einen traditionellen Schal stricken möchte oder einen extravagant-ausgefallenen, hier findet man die entsprechenden Modelle oder Anregungen. Letztere kann man im Schlußkapitel, das sich exklusiv dem Design widmet, vertiefen und so auch seinen ganz eigenen, unverwechselbaren Schal entwerfen.
Der Untertitel “… 31 inspirational styles to knit and crochet” ist übrigens ein wenig irreführend, denn die Anzahl der Häkelschals ist sehr klein. Genausowenig wie die Lacestrick- und Häkelfans werden die Dreiecktuch-Liebhaber auf ihre Kosten kommen, da die meisten Schals eben rechteckig sind.

Mich begeistert dieses Buch, weil die Schals so unendlich vielfältig sind: rechteckig, dreieckig, capeartig, vielfarbig, mit Strukturmustern, romantisch, geometrisch, puristisch, kurz, lang,
klassisch, ausgefallen – alles da. Ich werde mir mit Sicherheit mehr als einen Schal aus diesem Buch stricken und habe auch schon Ideen für Geschenke. Natürlich gefällt mir längst nicht jedes Modell – aber doch sehr viele.

I love accessoires. When I started knitting again, after a 20-year-break, I planned to knit a lot of accessoires. Therefore I ordered the book “scarf style” when I read about it in the web without ever having the opportunity to take a closer look at it. I was not disappointed: more than 30 patterns from well-known designers (Pam Allen, Debbie Bliss, Teva Durham, Nancy Bush, Nicky Epstein…) make an impressive collection of contemporary scarf design.
The main focus is laid on the rectangular scarf. There are classic and avantgarde patterns, colourful or textured ones, scarfs which are easy to do or very elaborated. You can find the scarf which is the perfect amend to your personal style or get plenty of inspriation to design your unique, distinctive scarf. For designers the author added a chapter with hints and tricks how do design the perfect pattern.
The subtitle “… 31 inspirational styles to knit and crochet” is a bit misleading, since there only very few patterns for crocheters are included. So crocheters will probably be displeased. The same will happen to lace-knitters and triangular-shawl-lovers: this book is dedicated mainly to the winter-type, rectangular scarf. Anyway, capelets and triangular scarves are included as well.
I love this book because of the variety of patterns: Aran, Fair Isle, modular, sportive, elegant, plain, sophisticated, romantic, puristical, fancy and classical. I will do more than one of these scarves, and some more which I will give away to family and friends. For me, this book is definately worth the money.
